Quinoa for Breakfast? Yes!

I bought a lot of Quinoa recently. Really just because I was told you “it’s good for you” and “you can make so much with it”. So I was determined to “do something good for myself”. Well, that enthusiasm is a good few weeks ago now and all the Quinoa moved further and further to the back of my kitchen pantry. Until yesterday, when i decided its time to educate myself a little better on the Quinoa topic and i started to do a little research. You can find tons of recipes for savoury Quinoa dishes. However, I am a breakfast person and was hoping for something rather sweet? And there it was, “breakfast Quinoa, overnight Quinoa, Quinoa energy bars, Quinoa breakfast bakes..” and so on. The list is long and I see a Quinoa heavy week ahead of me.

My first attempt was the breakfast Quinoa. I found a recipe and altered it to suit my personal taste buds. Which means you can do the same of course and be as creative as you like to get this all cooked up. I doubled the recipe as I am prepping for the entire work week.



  • Quinoa 1/2 cup
  • Water 1 1/2 cups
  • Cinnamon 1-2 heaped tea spoons
  • Honey 1 teaspoon
  • 2 apples





How to make it:

  • Peel and core the apples and cut them into bite sized pieces
  • Bring the water to the boil and add the Quinoa and apples
  • Simmer for about 20-25 minutes
  • Mixture should now be nice and thickened
  • Add the cinnamon and honey
  • Let it sit to cool if you are prepping
  • Or enjoy hot right away


Depending on the quality of the cinnamon you are using, you might want to add a bit more to your mixture. I used Agave syrup instead of honey, but you can of course use any sweetener of your choice for this recipe. Instead of just using apples, I used apples and pears and I didn’t peel the fruit.

I think I will try the breakfast cake next; because this really sounds like a good start to the day.
